Vanderbilt has canceled its women's basketball season opener against Tennessee Tech due to a lack of available players.
School officials announced Tuesday morning that the opener scheduled for Nov. 25 is canceled because of the number of players quarantined due to positive COVID-19 tests, contact tracing and injuries.
Athletic director Candice Lee said that disruptions are expected while competing during a pandemic and schools must be as flexible as possible, with the health of athletes and the community the top priority.
Chattanooga has also paused team activities for a two-week quarantine and canceled games at Tennessee State and at home against Tennessee Tech.
Tennessee Tech officials say they are working hard trying to replace those games on the schedule before the next scheduled game Dec. 3 in their Ohio Valley Conference opener at Jacksonville State.
