G League announces player-salary increase to $35,000

The G League announced Tuesday that players will receive a base salary of $7,000 per month or $35,000 total for the five-month 2018-19 season.

Players can earn additional money through affiliate player bonuses and NBA call-ups. Last season, the most a player could make was $26,000.

The G League has affiliates from 28 of 30 NBA teams. The move allows the minor league to become somewhat more attractive to players, including high school players who opt to join instead of going to college, such as 2018 McDonald's All-American Darius Bazley.

The players receive housing and insurance from G League teams as well. Once all 30 NBA teams get affiliates,  salaries are expected to rise again.

"I do like it. It's a start," one G League team executive told The Undefeated. "Once all [NBA] teams have their own [G League] teams, then you will see the salaries go up some more. Plus, with these high school players not wanting to go to college, they needed to raise it up a bit."

Two-way player salaries also rose to $77,250 from $75,000.
