Phillies put Eflin on IL with back tightness

The Philadelphia Phillies placed starting pitcher Zach Eflin on the 10-day injured list with mild back tightness, the team announced Friday. The move is retroactive to Tuesday.

Manager Gabe Kapler said he hasn't decided yet on a replacement starter for Saturday night's game at the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He said Eflin woke up a few days ago with a stiff back and is having mild spasms.

Kapler said he doesn't expect Eflin to be out very long.

Eflin is 5-5 in 11 starts this season with a 3.02 ERA. The right-hander is 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA in three starts since pitching a shutout May 11. Two of those starts came against Milwaukee.

Eflin allowed three runs and six hits in 3⅔ innings Sunday in a loss to the Brewers.

In a corresponding move, lefty Cole Irvin was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

In three starts this season, Irvin has a 2-1 record with a 5.60 ERA. His most recent start was May 22.
