Schalke mascot Erwin warned following Revierderby red card incident

The German FA (DFB) has issued a warning to Schalke mascot Erwin after he showed referee Felix Zwayer a red card in the Revierderby draw with Borussia Dortmund.

Zwayer had denied Schalke a stoppage-time penalty after Dortmund defender Marc Bartra played the ball with his hand in the penalty area.

The decision led to protests from players and officials and Schalke coach Markus Weinzierl was sent to the stands, from where a red card sailed onto the pitch of the Veltins Arena.

The card was picked up by Erwin and shown to Zwayer after the match.

The incident was subsequently investigated by the DFB after it made headlines in Germany and former referees demanded a pitchside ban for the mascot.

However, on Monday, the DFB announced that there will be no further investigations but Schalke have been "warned because of its mascot's behaviour towards referee Felix Zwayer" and threatened to sanction Erwin in the event of it happening again.
