Celtic's four-year Scottish Cup reign came to an end at the hands of Rangers on Sunday as the deposed champions of Scottish football were condemned to a first trophyless season since 2010.
Steven Gerrard's side advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to Steven Davis' overhead kick and a Jonjoe Kenny own goal before half time.
Celtic's wasteful afternoon was summed up by Odsonne Edouard's missed penalty 11 minutes from time.
Gerrard's side, who are vying for a first league and cup double since 2009, face St Johnstone in the quarterfinals after Sunday's win at Ibrox extended their 100% home record in domestic football this season.
Davis, who set Rangers on their way to victory after 10 minutes, told Premier Sports: "We knew how important it was for us.
"Both teams had chances in the game. In the second half we could have taken better care of the ball, but in the end I think we deserved the win.
"At a club like Rangers questions are always asked of you. We want this title to be the first of many. This is another step in the right direction."
