D.C. United holds off Columbus Crew SC in Annapolis

D.C. United 1-0 Columbus: 10-man United earn first win - Via MLS (1:59)

D.C. goalkeeper Steve Clark kept out the Crew to ensure that Ulises Segura's early volley was enough for United to pick up their first win of the season. (1:59)

D.C. United scored early and hung on with 10 men to earn its first win of the season on Saturday, beating Columbus Crew SC 1-0 in Annapolis, Maryland.

The game was played in front of 12,396 fans at the Naval Academy's football stadium while United waits for its new Audi Field to open in July.

It only took 43 seconds Ulises Segura to score in the first minute. Luciano Acosta back-heeled a pass at the edge of the box to Paul Arriola, who used one touch to feed Segura, who sent a first-time shot past Zack Steffen for his first MLS goal.

That would be United's only shot on target, as they were under siege after Arriola was sent off in the 51st minute. The U.S. international was initially only shown a yellow following a challenge on Artur, but it was changed to red after a video review.

Steve Clark made five saves to frustrate Columbus, which after a hot start has now lost three straight games.

D.C. United, which had drawn two and lost three to open the season, will now embark on an eight-game road swing until its new stadium opens.
