Chelsea's Marko Marin joins Anderlecht on loan

Anderlecht have announced that they have signed Chelsea winger Marko Marin on loan until the end of the season.

Marin, 25, had agreed a season-long loan at Fiorentina last summer but failed to make an impact in Italy and has now been allowed to make a move to Belgium.

Anderlecht general maneger Herman Van Holsbeeck told his club's official website: "Anderlecht is looking for quality, not quantity. The arrival of Marko Marin is a win-win deal for both parties. Here, he can play at the top level and help the Purple and Whites achieve their ambitions."

Marin said he is hoping to prove his worth at Anderlecht, who will take part in the Europa League during the second half of the season after finishing third in Champions League Group D.

"I'm happy to be able to give new momentum to my career in this professional environment," he said. "Anderlecht is still a big name on the European scene, and I am going to do all I can to help this great club win trophies."

Marin was considered one of the most promising talents in the Bundesliga after making his breakthrough at Borussia Monchengladbach and making his debut for the German national team in 2008, and he joined Werder Bremen in 2009.

His development stalled at a Bremen side that was starting to decline, but Chelsea made a move for his services in 2012, and he was part of the squad that won the Europa League in his debut season at Stamford Bridge.

He won a second successive Europa League during a loan spell at Sevilla the following year, and was then loaned to Fiorentina last summer, but he failed to make an impact and will now look to kick-start his career in Belgium.
