Denmark qualification hopes damaged in 0-0 draw with Armenia

Denmark's Euro 2016 qualification hopes suffered a blow as they were held to a 0-0 draw in Armenia.

Morten Olsen's side are level on 12 points with Portugal at the top of Group I, having played two games more, but are just a point ahead of third placed Albania, who host Portugal later on Monday.

Yura Movsisyan and Artem Simonyan missed Armenia's best chances in the second half, while Nicklas Bendtner saw a shot saved by Gevorg Kasparov in Yerevan.

Denmark only have one game left in qualifying with their chances of making next year's tournament in France resting on their trip to Portugal next month.

Tottenham's Christian Eriksen was ruled out with a knee injury for Denmark and the visitors missed the midfielder's spark during a drab first half.

They went close when Riza Durmisi's second-minute free kick was turned wide by Kasparov while Karlen Mkrtchyan fired wide from distance for the hosts.

But Armenia, who climbed off the bottom of the table with a point, frustrated their visitors who could only muster two shots on target before half time.

Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel easily claimed Robert Arzumanyan's 25-yard effort early in the second half and then survived a scare on 66 minutes.

Ruslan Koryan slipped Movsisyan through on goal with only Schmeichel to beat but the striker fired into the side-netting from 12 yards.

Bendtner's drive was then saved by Kasparov before Simonyan could have won it for the hosts with two minutes left but drilled wide from the edge of the area.
