With the January window on the horizon, there's plenty brewing in the transfer market. All the latest deals and potential deals can be found here.
United's Rose pursuit could bloom
Manchester United's hopes of bringing England defender Danny Rose in from Tottenham Hotspur might have been boosted again, according to the Manchester Evening News.
It says Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino's decision to omit Rose from his squad for a second Premier League game in succession has offered encouragement to United ahead as another window looms into view.
Rose, who said he was "fuming" after being omitted for the derby defeat at North London rivals Arsenal, also failed to make the squad for the home game against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
The Evening News says "the Doncaster-born defender has never disguised his thirst to return to the north of England, and United are continuing to monitor developments."
Were Rose to end up moving to Old Trafford it could have a knock-on effect, with Luke Shaw having recently been reported to be in contention for a loan move to Newcastle.
Shaw has featured only twice as a Carabao Cup substitute this season and could head for St James' Park until the end of the season if Rose comes in.
City setting sights on Martinez move
Manchester City, despite being given a tough time at Huddersfield on Sunday, sail serenely on at the top of the Premier League -- but Pep Guardiola is nevertheless turning his attention to reinforcements.
The Sun reports that Guardiola "has been keeping tabs on Real Sociedad defender Inigo Martinez, who had been a target for City in the summer.
Spain international Martinez, a central defender who can also operate at left-back, remains of interest to the leaders, hit by injuries to John Stones and Benjamin Mendy.
The Sun says they "have continued to monitor his performances for Sociedad during the first few months of the season."
And it adds that "the hamstring injury that will keep Stones out for much of the rest of the calendar year has highlighted how short they are in his position."
A move for Martinez could hinge on the success -- or otherwise -- of Vincent Kompany's return from another injury.
But the Sun says Martinez is likely to be of high interest to City in January in any case because of his ability to cover at left-back, with Mendy "likely to miss much of the rest of the season."
- Paris Saint-Germain's insatiable appetite in the transfer market shows little sign of abating, with Le Parisien reporting that they have been in contact with Nice about a potential move for Jean Michael Seri.
Seri, 26, was heavily linked with Barcelona in the summer, but after hopes of that switch fell through he could end up at PSG, having said the club "have a philosophy to which I am very attracted."
- Aston Villa, climbing steadily into contention for the automatic promotion places in the Championship, remain hopeful of signing goalkeeper Sam Johnstone from Manchester United on a permanent basis.
Johnstone has been one of the stars of the show as Villa move up the table, and kept his eighth clean sheet of the season in Saturday's victory over Ipswich. But the Express and Star reports that he is putting thoughts of a move on hold to concentrate on the "main objective" of promotion.
