Ozil and Alexis want big money, release clauses in new Arsenal contracts

The transfer window may have just slammed shut, but don't think that the wheeling and dealing won't continue!

Short-term loans and free transfers can still be submitted to the FAs. Plus, there's always January to start thinking about! As always, you can see all the latest deals here.

Top Story: Ozil, Sanchez play hardball in Arsenal negotiations

Invigorated by one of his busiest -- and most expensive -- summer transfer windows yet, Arsene Wenger is set to resume contract negotiations with two of Arsenal's biggest stars: Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

Wenger hopes the arrival of Germany international defender Shkodran Mustafi, a close friend of Ozil's, will convince the former Real Madrid playmaker to commit his long-term future to the club. However, the Mirror reports that it could cost the Gunners in the region of £200,000 per week if they are to get him to sign on the dotted line.

And pushing Sanchez toward a new deal doesn't look to be straightforward, either. The Chile international, who has two years to run on his current contract, is said to want a fixed-price release clause in any new deal.

Klopp 'furious' with Liverpool scouting staff

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reported to have been left "furious" with the club's scouting team after they missed out on the opportunity to sign Oliver Burke from Nottingham Forest, according to the Sun.

The 19-year-old Scotland international had been tracked by the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Manchester United after an impressive start to the Championship campaign saw him score four goals in four games. He shocked everyone, however, by joining Bundesliga new boys RB Leipzig for a reported £15m deal on a five-year contract.

The Sun claims that Klopp had "earmarked Burke as one for the future," and was keen to bring him to Anfield.

Palace seek Flamini addition

After failing in attempts to sign Jack Wilshere, James McCarthy, Tomas Rincon and Jonjo Shelvey among others on deadline day, Crystal Palace are now looking at one last roll of the dice in their efforts to sign a midfielder by putting together a deal to bring former Arsenal man Mathieu Flamini to Selhurst Park, reports the Guardian.

But the newspaper reports they are not alone in doing so, and could face competition from Roma, AC Milan and Olympiakos, who have all spoken to the Frenchman's representatives. Palace have named only 24 players in their 25-man Premier League squad for the season ahead, making it seem likely Alan Pardew is planning on one more arrival this summer.

The 32-year-old has plenty of top-flight experience, having made 246 appearances for the Gunners across two spells, and also has the advantage of already being based in London.

- With Christian Eriksen close to agreeing a new four-year contract at Tottenham the club have reportedly turned their attention to securing the futures of Jan Vertonghen and Erik Lamela. The Daily Mail reckons the 31-year-old is also a target for Sunderland, Hull City, Montpellier and Marseille after becoming a free agent.

- West Ham quoted an asking price of £100m when a potential suitor enquired about the availability of Dimitri Payet this summer, according to the London Evening Standard. It is said Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain were among the clubs eyeing the France international.

- Jonathan Benteke has joined Crystal Palace's development squad on a one-year contract, the Daily Mail reports. The 21-year-old striker, who was recently released by Belgian side Zulte Waregem, will link up with older brother Christian, who became the Eagles' club-record signing when he joined from Liverpool for £32m this summer.
