13:38 BST: This is all Villas-Boas had to say on Erik Lamela: "further news in the next few days." But he did say there is more work to be done. Expecting Lamela, Chiriches and perhaps even Eriksen to still join Spurs. Spurs fans have reason to be excited despite Bale's departure, the squad is much stronger thanks to the money generated from his transfer (when it eventually goes through.)

13:28 BST: Villas-Boas: "He is involved in a big transfer move to Real Madrid and in the end if it happens, we wish him all the best, but the fact that he hasn't turned up is not the correct behaviour. 11:00 BST: Speaking of Gareth Bale. Sky Sports are now reporting that he won't return to Tottenham, at all. There is also a quote doing the rounds on Twitter. "I will continue to have a huge respect for Tottenham, and the fans, but I hope you understand the position I'm now in." The legitimacy of the quote is up for debate, and it doesn't sound quite right, but I'm sure there will be updates to come shortly. Check out this video from Spain below, they are not too fond of Daniel Levy it seems, courtesy of 101GreatGoals.

"No English player who has come to Spanish football has been a success. If Bale is worth €100million, I am priceless. They should limit the money so that small teams can have some fresh air."

Someone should have told him Bale is Welsh -- and Steve McManaman was very good in Madrid colours.

10:28 BST: Apologies for so many Twitter embeds, but so much speculation and news is coming through. This time, Sport Bild claim Schalke have been offered the chance to sign Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto'o. Seems unlikely, and will be most upsetting to Chelsea who are close to getting the Anzhi striker.

There does seem to be genuine uncertainty regarding his future, but he definitely wants to stay in Madrid.

09:58 BST: Bad news for Arsenal fans. Sky Sports report that Angel Di Maria has reiterated his desire to stay at Real Madrid, despite the club's pursuit of Gareth Bale and reported interest from other clubs in him.

"I understand that the club is strengthening and they are precise in what they do. But I signed up to 2018 just a year ago and my desire is to stay in the Bernabeu."

09:55 BST: The Daily Mail are now reporting on Spurs' chase of Ajax youngster Christian Eriksen. The 21-year-old would no doubt be a star at White Hart Lane, but question marks will surround some of the other players in their attacking lineup, with such an abundance of midfielders in the squad.

09:46 BST: Newcastle desperate to get their man.

09:40 BST: With Pabon and Postiga recruited, it seems Valencia have done what they can to replace Soldado.

09:38 BST: Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba's agent has said that the youngster is worth €200 million if Gareth Bale is worth €100 million. "He's certainly worth a Salvador Dali for how precious and important he is."

09:17 BST: Brazilian attacker Willian is expected to recieve a work permit today to allow him to sign for Chelsea. He will become the seventh player available to Jose Mourinho in his position. With Juan Mata, Andre Schurrle, Oscar, Victor Moses, Eden Hazard, and Kevin de Bruyne all ready to play in the attacking line behind the striker.

However, if you were worried that Chelsea were short in that position, fear not. Because the Blues are in talks with Porto to sign young attacker Christian Atsu. Goal.com, SportsDirect News, and Sky Sports have reported this story, with the fee believed to be around £3.5million. So Chelsea could potentially have eight players in that position, however Mata is expected to leave.

This comes after Juan Mata's father was spotted watching Arsenal beat Fenerbahce last night from a director's box at the Emirates.

08:31 BST: Reports coming in from various sources this morning claim both Arsenal and Manchester United will bid for Real Madrid attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil. In fact AS claim that United have already bid €50million for the Germany international. This fuels talk of Shinji Kagawa's exit from Old Trafford, as Borussia Dortmund fans urge him to come back to Germany.

08:20 BST: Lyon CEO Jean-Michel Aulas, has confirmed that Yoann Gourcuff will be staying at the club this season. The 27-year-old France midfielder was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal.

According to the Mirror, David Moyes has made preliminary enquiries to lure David Luiz to Old Trafford, as his hopes of signing Everton duo Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini appear to be fading. Barcelona were keen to sign Luiz earlier in the transfer window but Jose Mourinho fended off the Spanish side's advances, insisting the 26-year-old is an important part of his plans at Chelsea. Moyes is apparently concerned about the ability of experienced centre-back pairing Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand to play a full season and Luiz could be the ideal solution. Reckon United fans will forget this quickly?

Joey Barton is a man in demand. Yes, you read that right! The Sun claim Crystal Palace and Everton could enter a battle for the much-maligned QPR midfielder, with the 30-year-old expected to cost around £3 million. The Toffees are only likely to pursue Barton if they release Fellaini to Manchester United, but the Englishman's agent Willie McKay confirmed "Palace have made an enquiry".

Back in London and Chelsea are hopeful of signing Samuel Eto'o from Anzhi Makhachkala this week, the Daily Mail reports. Eto'o will follow the signing of Willian from the Russian side, with the Cameroonian expected to move to Stamford Bridge as part of the same £32 million package. Eto'o is likely to join Chelsea on a one-year deal and could find himself as a first choice under Jose Mourinho, his former boss at Inter. The Blues will not be short of attacking options, with Fernando Torres, Romelu Lukaku and Demba Ba also fighting for a place in the starting side.

Juan Mata admirers Tottenham are keen to sign the Chelsea midfielder and could step up their chase following the news that Zenit St Petersburg striker Hulk is "not for sale". The Mirror claims Andre Villas-Boas has been told to call off his pursuit of the Brazilian, despite reports that an offer of £40 million would do the trick for Zenit. Although Hulk is hoping to leave Russia and would even take a pay cut, the final decision rests with his current club, which could free up enough cash for Spurs to chase Mata.
