"Anyone who thinks Antonio Conte resigned due to the transfer strategy is wrong. Our plan is clear: we want to keep all our best players, including Vidal and Pogba," he told Czech Republic outlet Denik Sport.

21.13 BST: Mario Balotelli isn't heading to London. Well, not yet anyway. "We have not received any offer [for Balotelli] and at this time, there is nothing from Arsenal," Milan CEO Adriano Galliani said on Sunday.

20.55 BST: Ed Woodward has told Manchester United fans to expect new signings and several departures over the next few weeks. "There is no fixed budget. Financially we are extremely strong, we have funds available,'' United's executive vice-chairman told MUTV in an interview filmed on the club's preseason tour of the United States.

19.04 BST: Turkish club Besiktas have completed the signing of former Chelsea striker Demba Ba, who spoke of his excitement ahead of his new adventure.

18.41 BST: A report from L'Equipe claims that Didier Drogba is set to ink a short-term deal with Chelsea next week and return to Stamford Bridge as a player-coach.

17.33 BST: Feyenoord defender Stefan De Vrij apparently has his heart set on a move to Manchester United according to the Express. After seeing Lazio's £5 million bid turned down the Dutch defender now wants to see if Man Utd's talk of interest can be firmed up with an offer.

17.21 BST: Tottenham look almost confirmed to sign Ben Davies and Michel Vorm from Swansea with Gylfi Sigudrsson and £5 million going the other way according to a report in The Telegraph. The report also claims Franco Baldini is in Italy negotiating a deal for Roma striker Destro.

17.17 BST: French Ligue 2 outfit Arles Avignon are set to sign Gary Bocaly on a free transfer from Montpellier along with Evian's Maxime Blanc - both are expected to sign two year deals. Also, former Liverpool midfielder Damien Plessis is expected to join the promotion-chasers from Lausanne.

17.10 BST: West Ham are planning a double-loan swoop on Inter Milan and Malaga according to the Daily Star. Sam Allardyce wants to bring in 22-year-old Algerian Saphir Taider from Inter for the season as well as Malaga full-back Vitorino Antunes with a view to a permanent deal worth £4 million next year.

17.00 BST: Gus Poyet is still confident he can convince Fabio Borini to join Sunderland despite the Italian forward flying to America for pre-season with Liverpool in the midst of a £14 million deal with the Black Cats. The Daily Mail claim Borini is holding out for a move to a Champions League club abroad before he will make any decision on his future.

16.52 BST: Poor Monaco can't seem to catch a break in this transfer window.

16.47 BST: Liverpool have reportedly given up hope of signing Michel Vorm from Swansea as he is close to joining Tottenham. The Mirror instead claim the Reds are lining up a move for Fiorentina goalkeeper Neto as a backup to Simon Mignolet. Despite the interest in goalkeepers, Pep Reina is expected to return to Liverpool and start training.

16.30 BST: Belgian giants Standard Liege have added their name to the list of clubs after highly-rated Ghanaian winger Majeed Waris. Everton were said to be close to securing a deal for the wideman but do not want to pay the £7 million being asked by Spartak Moscow. However, the Belgian club want to take him on loan with a view to a permanent deal which the Russian club are not too keen on agreeing to.

16.16 BST: There is more than one Rodriguez involved in a transfer saga of sorts this window. Southampton's Jay Rodriguez is not signing a new contract until he knows how serious Liverpool and Spurs are in signing him,according to the Mirror. Saints want to tie him down to a five-year package but the England winger despite still being out of action for months with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

16.10 BST: Busy busy busy QPR look set to bring in highly-rated Bolton midfielder Mark Davies for around £5 million according to the Daily Mail. The report suggests he may join on an initial one-year loan deal and if QPR can secure Premier League survival, then Harry Redknapp would be willing to take him on a permanent deal.

16.02 BST: Leeds have missed out on AIK winger Robin Quaison who has opted to join newly-promoted Serie A side Palermo instead.

15.54 BST: Tottenham are still hot on the heels of Memphis Depay from PSV after an impressive World Cup from the young Dutchman. The Mirror claim Mauricio Pocchetino wanted the youngster even before the World Cup and is prepared to pay whatever it takes to get him.

The same article also claims Tottenham's Sandro, who had been tipped for a move to Napoli, will not be leaving White Hart Lane after Daniel Levy priced Rafa Benitez's team out of the market, asking for £16 million.

15.40 BST: Newcastle have not given Hatem Ben Arfa a squad number because of a row over his weight. The French winger, as reported by the Mirror, is said to have returned to pre-season 1.5kg heavier than expected. He said it was muscle mass and the doctor's said it was flab. He has since been banished to the reserves along with Sylvain Marveaux who are both expected to leave the club this summer. The latter is a target for Montpellier, who recently sold Newcastle Remy Cabella.

15.30 BST: When Crystal Palace signed Jose Campana from Sevilla last year, there were seriously high hops for his future. Twelve months later and Sky sources claim the Spanish midfielder is currently in Genoa having a medical with Sampdoria ahead of a transfer to Serie A.

15.21 BST: The Sunday Mirror claim Livepool are closing in on signing £20 million man Dejan Lovren and Loic Remy for £8.5 million. The Southampton defender will be replaced by his old club with Ron Vlaar, who the Saints hope to lure away from Aston Villa.

15.15 BST: Monaco may be losing one star in James Rodriguez but they're trying hard to replace him it would seem. Gazzetta dello Sport have today revealed the French club tried to sign Juventus forward Domenico Berardi for £22 million but were told he was not for sale. Juve would rather see their forward remain on loan at Sassuolo for another season before asking him to make the step-up into their first-team a year later when he is no longer -co-owned by both clubs and the Bianconeri have bought the remaining 50% for £14 million.

15.10 BST: Rumours surfaced a number of weeks ago that AC Milan's Robinho was the subject of interest from Kaka's new club, Orlando City. Now reports are emerging claiming Robinho is desperate for the move. President Flavio Augusto Da Silva told Radio Bandeirantes: "We haven't yet bought Robinho, but we are talking to Milan and in our view he'll be a great reinforcement for our team. He is a great player, he just turned 30, is very motivated and showed he wants to play for our club. Would he spend six months on loan like Kaka? I respect the desire of the player very much. In case we were able to buy Robinho, he'd decide his destiny for the next six months."

15.06 BST: And more from Juventus as they are said, by Leggo, to be thinking about using Angelo Ogbonna as part of an exchange deal with Lazio in order to lower the huge £35 million asking price for Antonio Candreva.

14.53 BST: Cagliari have confirmed they are in negotiation to sell Davide Astori to Juventus or Lazio. Director Francesco Marroccu told Il Messaggero: "We are in negotiations with both Lazio and Juventus. At the moment we cannot say whether one club or the other has the advantage. Negotiations will continue." The Italy defender is eager to leave Cagliari this summer but his £9 million price-tag is said to be causing problems. Premier League clubs Southampton and Aston Villa are also interested.

14.45 BST: Mario Balotelli's future is so up in the air he might be ready for a trip to the moon soon enough! The Mirror claim Arsenal are going to go back in for Super Mario but reports in Italy have suggested Milan are ready to make him captain to keep him at the San Siro. Corriere Dello Sport say Balotelli will ignore interest from England because he wants to be loved at Milan. Who knows?

14.32 BST: THE SCOTTISH MESSI! That is a real thing and it is not Ryan Gauld who went to Sporting Lisbon. Instead it is Dundee United's Gary Mackay-Steven who is attracting interest from the English Championship with Blackburn Rovers and Derby County ready to battle it out for his signature.

14.26 BST: A quick update from Marseille and what is going on in their transfer window!

14.19 BST: He is well known at home in Argentina after a two-legged match where he subdued a certain Brazilian winger to the point Real Madrid dubbed him 'the anti-Neymar.' According to the Mirror, Gino Peruzzi of Catania is the subject of interest from Arsenal who want to bring the right-back to the Emirates to provide competition for new signing Mathieu Debuchy. Should a bid of over £6 million come in, it would be hard for Catania to resist selling.

14.10 BST: Arsenal and Spurs look set to battle it out for Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin this summer. And the Daily Mail are today claiming the French international would rather link up with former boss Mauricio Pocchetino at Spurs than play Champions League football with Arsenal. Either way, it is going to take between £16-20 million to lure him away from St Mary's.

14.00 BST: Everton are the latest club to be linked with a move for James Milner of Man City, according to the Liverpool Echo. Milner is saidto want out should he not be guaranteed more first-team football while Liverpool are also monitoring the situation. The Toffees are also considering a loan move for Chelsea's Christian Atsu.

13.53 BST: Manchester United's relentless pursuit of Juventus' Arturo Vidal looks set to continue as the Express claim the Red Devils are ready to offer the Chilean midfielder £200,000 per week. Add to that a £40 million transfer fee and that is one huge outlay for a club not in the Champions League.

13.41 BST: Guingamp are looking to sign Jeremy Pied from Nice to reinforce their midfield. The buyers would prefer a permanent deal but L'Equipe claims Guingamp will have to settle for a loan deal with an option to buy at the end of it because Pied is contracted to the Cote d'Azur club until 2016.

13.25 BST: Man Utd's forgotten man Bebe looks set to join Benfica with his Utd career in tatters. Even the new manager, Louis Van Gaal, is prepared to let him go before running the rule over him like the rest of the squad.

13.15 BST: Belgian international Steven Defour looks like he will get his wish and be leaving Porto this summer. His agent told O Jogo: "We have reached agreement in principal with PSV, it also depends on Porto. We are waiting for clarification from the leadership of Porto what is going to happen. But it is now envisaged that Defour will start training on Monday at Porto."

13.00 BST: It seems the guys and girls over at Sport Witness have been unpicking the bones of the William Carvalho to Arsenal story. Apparently it could be the case that the Sporting midfielder is available for cheaper than his £45 million release clause.

12.53 BST: Sunderland's efforts to bring in Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina on a permanent deal have been upped. According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Black Cats have offered £2.5 million and Modibo Diakite who was on loan at La Viola from January last season.

12.46 BST: Netherlands midfielder Jordy Clasie, who impressed during his cameo appearances at the World Cup is interested in a move to Porto. His agent, Wessel Weezenberg, recently told O Jogo: "He will seriously consider it when he returns from holiday, but the idea is to make him a captain at Feyenoord. But he told me that if Porto reach an agreement with Feyenoord then it would be very good for him."

12.40 BST: Further to reports yesterday, L'Equipe are claiming Cristoph Kramer is on Napoli's radar despite being just one year into a two-year loan with Borussia Monchengladbach from Bayer Levekusen.

12.30 BST: The agent of soon-not-to-be Porto defender Rolando has told calciomercato.com that his client is 'waiting' for the right deal to come along. Porto want £6 million for a man who they sent on loan to Inter last season and they've cut from their pre-season tour. Inter Milan, Roma and Besiktas are all interested.

12.24 BST: Gillaume Hoarau is nearing a free transfer to Saint Etienne after his contract ran out at Bordeaux according to L'Equipe. However, Brandao will have to leave St Etienne before the Hoarau transfer can be put through.

12.18 BST: The battle commences for highly-rated young Man Utd defender Michael Keane.

12.15 BST: Who remembers Jeremie Aliadiere? Young Arsenal forward, didn't score much? Him. Well, he is about to pen a big contract with Qatari club Umm Salal because he is 31 years old and wants one last big contract. L'Equipe say he is currently on a deal worth around £500,000 a year at Lorient but will double that salary now he is moving to Qatar.

12.05 BST: James Rodriguez laying the smackdown! He wants his move.

11.58 BST: Lots of conflicting reports about the future of Stefan De Vrij. A few days ago Lazio owner Claudio Lotito was sure the Dutch international would be joining the Serie A outfit but apparently their bid was too low. Feyenoord director Martin van Geel has said that no bid has been made by anyone since Lazio's was rejected but the Mirror are saying a deal has been agreed for De Vrij to join Manchester United and link up with former Dutch boss Louis Van Gaal. Who knows how this will play out!?!?!?

11.50 BST: Juventus legend and now board member Pavel Nedved has assured fans that the Italian champions will not be selling Arturo Vidal or Paul Pogba unless monumentally big offers come in. He told Denik Sport in the Czech Republic: "Anyone who thinks Antonio Conte resigned due to the transfer strategy is wrong. Our plan is clear: we want to keep all our best players, including Vidal and Pogba. We don't want to sell anyone, especially not Vidal. Of course, if a particularly high offer arrived then we'd have to think about it, but we don't want to sell our champions. We want to be competitive in the Champions League and the only sales will be players who are not part of our plans."

There were reports in the Italian media last night that Vidal had put his house in Turin up for sale, fuelling rumours of a move to Manchester United.

11.40 BST: Looks like it is a Brazilian contingent that have gone missing!

11.33 BST: Esteban Granero could be set to stay at QPR despite wanting out of the club pretty much since he has arrived. Real Sociedad have been keen to negotiate with QPR but have got nowhere with regards to a fee. That prompted Harry Redknapp to tell reporters yesterday: "He's a wonderful person and has a good character. He wants to stay here and I hope he has a good season."

11.25 BST: Love it when things like this happen. Daley Blind has been spotted in Barcelona which has fuelled speculation the Dutch defender is going to join the Catalan giants. Mundo Deportivo have run the story and just to make things ever so slightly more juicy, the Ajax man's agent has done nothing to douse the flames of the rumour. Rob Jansen, agent, told Voetbal International: "At the moment there is nothing concrete. But the rumours of today could very well be tomorrow's reality. There are many clubs interested in Daley. We'll have to wait and see what happens when the transfer market shakes up."

11.20 BST: Well this could be the best transfer story of the entire summer. Will certainly bring updates on this as it develops!

11.19 BST: Mexico captain Rafael Marquez, who had a hugely successful spell with Barcelona under Frank Rijkaard, is now a target for Hellas Verona. At the grand old age of 35, and playing for Leon in Mexico, the central defender is apparently keen to make his mark on a top European league before he hangs up his boots. And Verona director of sport Sean Sogliano told Sky Sport Italia: "Marquez? I have many dreams, then I wake up.. We'll see. We will certainly make more moves on the transfer market, but we need patience."

11.13 BST: Arsenal have emerged as surprise contenders to sign Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho. O Jogo claim the Gunners had a 30 million euro bid turned down by the Portuguese club who are waiting to receive his full buy-out clause of 45 million euros. Manchester United and Chelsea are also said to be interested.

11.03 BST: Isco is 22 and one of the hottest young players in Europe but after a disappointing first season at Real Madrid, it looks like Liverpool may want to bring in the midfield maestro. However, reports suggest he doesn't want to go. That's a problem given Toni Kroos and the impending signing of James Rodriguez will only limit his playing time further.

11.00 BST: Sunderland are set to be disappointed in the transfer market again say the Sunday Mirror. First £14 million target Fabio Borini says he wants to stay at Liverpool and fight for his place and now USA defender Matt Besler has decided to sign a new deal with MLS side Sporting Kansas City. Sunderland had been very interested in the World Cup star but will have to turn their attentions elsewhere after Besler signed a new deal to substantially increase his earnings.

10.53 BST: Ronald Koeman's rebuilding of the Saints squad continues with the news he is interested in taking £6 million rated Swedish striker John Guidetti from Man City. Koeman had the would-be-Lambert replacement with him at Feyenoord for a season where he netted 20 times in 23 Eredivisie games.

10.48 BST: Formerly hotly-tipped Dutch winger Romeo Castelen has joined Aussie side Sydney Wanderers it would appear.

10.46 BST: Luis Enrique being hilariously cryptic and non-committal on Ibrahim Afellay's future at Barcelona...

10.40 BST: Tottenham's Lewis Holtby could be on his way out of the club if he is forced into a bit-part role under Mauricio Pocchetino. According to the Daily Star, the German is attracting interest from Crystal Palace and QPR who would want to take him on loan for the season should he want more first-team games.

10.32 BST: Swansea are keen to bring in Dmitri Payet but the player doesn't seem to want to leave Marseille.

10.23 BST: AC Milan have absolutely no interest in spending £12 million on signing Nani and have told Man Utd that they'll wait until they're desperate to sell before making an offer, according to the Express. Juventus are also said to be interested, but then they've apparently been interested for the past few years.

10.15 BST: QPR's enigmatic attacking midfielder Adel Taarabt has a future at the club if he wants it, according to chairman Tony Fernandes. The R's supremo told reporters: "I would like him to stay because he has a great history with us. From a professional standpoint I think it would be great if he stayed."

10.10 BST: Southampton may be losing players by the minute (artistic licence there) but new boss Ronald Koeman is not resting on his laurels hoping for the best. According to the Daily Mail, the Dutchman is looking to bring in Serbian left-back Dusko Tosic to replace Luke Shaw who went to Manchester United. The Genclerbirligi defender made it into the Turkish-All-Star team last year and could be available for as little as £5 million.

10.03 BST: Tottenham and Swansea are set to rubber stamp a couple of deals with one another. Apparently Ben Davies and Michel Vorm are on their way to Spurs' pre-season tour to finalise deals and begin training with their new club. At the same time a wad of cash and Gylfi Sigurdsson are heading back to the UK with Swansea just to balance things out. The Daily Mail say this has come as a blow to Liverpool who were interested in the duo and that the deal is worth around £15 million overall.

09.56 BST: Who'd have ever thought Iker Casillas would want his Real Madrid contract ripped up so he could join Arsenal on a free transfer? Well according to El Confidencial in Spain and being reported by the Daily Mail in England, that is exactly what the legendary Spanish 'keeper wants. Absolutely incredible.

09.50 BST: Another bizarre story this morning is that of Andy Carroll being the subject of a £15 million bid from his old club Newcastle, who are desperate to have him back, according to The Mirror. Apparently a source close to the club has said Carroll has always been a Geordie and would love a return to the north-east.

09.43 BST: QPR boss Harry Redknapp is starting to get into gear with this transfer stuff. According to The Mirror, Redknapp wants to bring in up to six more senior players after the capture of Rio Ferdinand. Apparently he wants to re-unite himself with Rafa Van Der Vaart, Kyle Naughton and Peter Crouch.

09.38 BST: Liverpool's sale of Fabio Borini for £14 million to Sunderland looks to have hit a snag as the Italian striker has told Brendan Rodgers he wants to stay and fight for his place at Anfield. The Guardian says this has put Liverpool's purchase of Loic Remy in doubt as they will not have the squad space for both players.

09.30 BST: Liverpool are set to make a move for Manchester City's James Milner according to The Mirror. They say the versatile midfielder is open to a move in order to get more first-team football and could be bought for around £15 million.

09.21 BST: Bizarre story of the morning so far goes to The Mirror who are reporting Joleon Lescott is already looking to leave West Brom just 28 days after joining the club. Apparently he feels unsettled there because of broken promises about the club trying to sign top players. The Baggies have so far missed out on signing Emmanuel Riviere from Lyon and Enner Valencia from Pachuca but have signed £10 million striker Ideye Brown. Swings and roundabout Joleon, swings and roundabouts...

05.38 BST: After an excellent World Cup for the Socceroos, it's being speculated that both QPR and Sunderland are trying to lure Tim Cahill back to the Premier League. Cahill has been in fine form for the New York Red Bulls and won the ESPY for the Best MLS Player just last week.

03.58 BST: DONE DEAL! A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers have confirmed the signing of Dutch international Romeo Castelen on a on a two year deal.

The 31-year-old winger spent the past season with RKC Waalwijk in the Eredivisie.

10 million pounds will seal the deal

There appears to have been a breakthrough in the negotiations between Manchester United and Arsenal over Thomas Vermaelen.

The Red Devils have been pursuing Arsene Wenger's centre-back for quite some time now, and while the Gunners can probably afford to let the Belgian go, agreeing on an acceptable price with United has proved to be a difficult task.

The Daily Star, however, is reporting today that Louis van Gaal's representatives have increased the original offer of six million pounds to 10 million -- and confidence is high Vermaelen will now be allowed to head north.

The Arsenal boss has already confirmed he will replace Vermaelen, should his transfer go through.

Wayne Rooney on notice

Of course, Manchester United aren't just focused on their pursuit of Vermaelen.

The Daily Mail says Louis van Gaal will be using their tour of the USA to run the rule over Wayne Rooney.

Speculation over Rooney's future has gradually increased since the appointment of the Dutchman, with many thinking Rooney doesn't suit the "Van Gaal style."

If Rooney is to move on, the newspaper suggests Manchester United will revive their interest in Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani.

Andy to return home

Newcastle United look set to continue their summer spending spree with a surprise move for former fan favourite Andy Carroll.

The Mirror says Toon boss Alan Pardew believes he can persuade West Ham to sell Carroll after the Londoners snapped up two South American strikers, Enner Valencia and Mauro Zarate, this summer.

The paper quotes a Newcastle United source, saying: "Like all Geordies, Andy Carroll has never lost his love for Newcastle, and we are sure, if West Ham agree to sell, we would have no difficulty in persuading him to come home."


- The James Rodriguez saga rolls on -- today Marca are reporting Real Madrid and Monaco are 10 million euros apart in their valuations of the Colombian superstar.

- Among the plethora of other players Le10Sport say Manchester United are also targeting Barcelona youngster Sergi Roberto.

- The Mirror believe Liverpool are lining up bids for Manchester City's James Milner and Fiorentina keeper Norberto Murara Neto.
