Best forward options for the Premier League's double matchweek

With a Premier League double matchweek that promises high scores, let's take a look at some best forward options before you lock in your fantasy lineups.

Tier 1 forwards

With Sergio Agüero's status uncertain with a muscular injury, we have turned away from the top-scoring forward in the game. We start with Tottenham's Harry Kane, who has two favorable fixtures, at home to Southampton and a trip to Leicester. Kane has scored in three of his last four Premier League outings, averaging four shots on goal per game over that span. To make Kane even more intriguing is his past performances against his upcoming opponents: The Englishman has scored five goals in the past three games vs. Southampton, and has 13 goals in 11 career matches against Leicester City, including seven goals in the past three.

Staying in North London, Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is coming off a 35-point performance in the North London derby. Since his debut for Arsenal in February, no player has scored more Premier League goals than Aubameyang (20). The forward averages just under one goal involvement per game. Although a visit to Old Trafford in the first game of the double matchweek sounds tough on paper, Manchester United have only kept one clean sheet in the Premier League this season. On Saturday, the Gunners host Huddersfield, a team that has struggled on the road this season and has been on the receiving end of an Aubameyang goal last season.

Finally, Liverpool's Tier 1 forwards, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino are worth considering with trips to Burnley and Bournemouth this week. Liverpool is on a 14-game unbeaten streak to open up the Premier League season. Salah has scored 15 or more fantasy points in four of his last six Premier League games, and he was withdrawn early on Sunday against Everton, so you would expect him to start midweek. The Egyptian had six multi-goal games last Premier League season, but he has yet to do so this season. This week's fixtures could do the trick. Burnley have conceded 299 shots this season, by far the most in the Premier League, and only Fulham have conceded more goals. On Saturday, Liverpool visits Bournemouth, a team that Salah and Roberto Firmino each scored against both times they met last season.

Tier 2 forwards

Looking at our forward options on Tier 2, Bournemouth's Callum Wilson has four goals in his last five matches and faces Huddersfield and Liverpool this week. Despite the tough matchup in Liverpool, Wilson has scored multiple goals in two of his four career games against Huddersfield, including a hat trick last November in a 4-0 win. He has not found that same success against Liverpool, scoring just once in four meetings, and the Reds have held opposing forwards to under seven points in every game but two ... so balance that against his previous performances against Huddersfield.

Looking at Liverpool's Merseyside rivals, we can look to Everton's Richarlison, who burst on to the scene with three goals in his first two Premier League games this season but has not kept pace since. He has scored just two goals in his last six Premier League games, both coming against Brighton in early November. However, he has 11 shots in that stretch with six of those on target; both second most on the team during that stretch. His 126 touches in the attacking third are third-most on the team during that span. With upcoming games against Newcastle and his former club Watford, who rank fourth-worst in opponent shot conversion percentage, this could be a week to bet on the Brazilian.

West Ham forward Marko Arnautovic may have just one goal in his last six games, but that does not keep him off the fantasy scoresheet. He has multiple chances created in each of his last four games, picked up an assist in West Ham's 3-0 win against Newcastle over the weekend, and his 16 shots on target this season are tied for seventh-most in the Premier League. With games this week against Cardiff City -- who sport the second worst opponent shot conversion rate in the Premier League -- and Crystal Palace, this is a good week to bet on this versatile forward to contribute to your stat sheet even if he can't find the back of the net.
