MONTREAL, Canada -- Ferrari boss Maurizio Arrivabene has denied speculation linking his technical director James Allison with a move to Renault, saying the rumours also "lack respect".
Over the Canadian Grand Prix weekend a number of stories emerged linking Allison to a move to Renault -- the same team he left at the end of 2013 to rejoin Ferrari. The French car manufacturer is on a recruitment drive in order to rebuild the Enstone-based team and Allison is reported to be one of its main targets.
Some news reports suggested Allison's personal circumstances may influence whether he stays at Ferrari or moves back to the English-based team after the sudden loss of his wife to meningitis in March. Arrivabene said such speculation was not only untrue, it was also disrespectful.
"The only comment is that it is absolutely not true, James is our technical director," Arrivabene said. "What he went through ... I don't wish on anybody to go through a period like James went through.
"We are all around him and he is with us, which is the most important thing. So, talking about him in that way over the last few days, it is a lack of respect, I think. I am sorry to say so."
