On that note, on behalf of Sreshth and myself, thanks for keeping us company. Join us again on Monday for the series decider. Till then, ciao!

6.35pm It's official folks, those breaking the midnight oil can finally rest, the rain continues and the match has been abandoned.

Viraj : "So the rain has decided that the SL team should feel how it is like at home right now. It's pouring over here as well in Colombo. Such a justifying act by the rain gods. SL players are waiting, rain is pouring, so are we here infront of the TV watching some random matches and shows. My snacks are also almost over."

6pm "Unfortunately, the rain is still happening and falling consistently," says the comms on broadcast. "Skies beginning to clear - but on the wrong side." Not much more than that to add from our end, I'm afraid. Cut off time is 8.02pm local time.

5.55pm Some umbrellas still out in the stands, among the fans.

5.25pm As we stand, folks, there's still no official update although the skies have gotten slightly brighter in the faaaar distance. Can see a couple of people walking around the field, but since they opt to cover only about 15-20% of the ground here usually, the clean-up will take time even if rain has stopped (which it hasn't completely).

Gaavin: "At this point, I think rain is in a committed relationship with Sri Lankan cricket. Wherever they go, it follows!"

4.37pm The broadcasters have said the rain continues. Still a bunch of time to go till we are here for a 20-over shootout.

4pm Sadly the news remains bleak folks, as the drizzle is persistent. "Ugh.. its almost 2 am in Sri Lanka and i have been waiting for the match to start since 1 am. How long should i wait before i think of hitting the bed? i wanna see SL bat though," ponders Hathim, to which I say, maybe a quick 90 minute power nap might be in order.

3.25pm Still no good news to offer, friends. Covers are still on and no groundstaff on the field. So there must be some drizzle still on, even if it's not totally visible against the grey skies. We should be losing overs soon.

Shazeen: "Rain is the worst enemy for cricket! I've been awake since 2 PM yesterday, got a cricket tournament to commentate on in a few hours, choose not to sleep so I can watch the game! "

3.02pm But that's going to have to wait I'm afraid as the covers have come on after the light drizzle around the ground has escalated to some quite heavy rain. Start of play delayed.

Thanks Sreshth. Should be an interesting opening hour in store, particularly with the overcast conditions.

2.56pm A small jersey presentation to Shai Hope - for his 150th ODI appearance. There's a bit of drizzle around too, but for now, play is on. Let's also bring in Madushka Balasuriya for a short while now.

faraz: "WI playing fewest international cricket among Full members amid ZIM and Afghanistan. WI are very unlucky that among their matches every year some matches are completely washed out due to rain. "

Shai Hope opts to bowl with the "overhead" in mind. Jangoo comes in for the injured Matthew Forde. He's happy with the combination today cause it strenghthens the batting too. As for SL captain Mendis, he says the conditions will be tough initially, but will want to score runs after that. Asitha is replaced by Eshan Malinga.

West Indies 1 John Campbell, 2 Justin Greaves, 3 Keacy Carty, 4 Shai Hope (capt & wk), 5 Sherfane Rutherford, 6 Roston Chase, 7 Amir Jangoo, 8 Gudakesh Motie, 9 Alzarri Joseph, 10 Shamar Joseph, 11 Jayden Seales.

Sri Lanka 1 Pathum Nissanka, 2 Kamindu Mendis, 3 Kusal Mendis (capt & wk), 4 Pavan Rathnayake, 5 Charith Asalanka, 6 Janith Liyanage, 7 Wanindu Hasaranga, 8 Milan Rathnayake, 9 Maheesh Theekshana, 10 Dushmantha Chameera, 11 Eshan Malinga

Toss at 2.30pm (if things remain dry) with a 3pm start

2.10pm Live pictures: the toss is delayed due to the rain earlier in the day. The groundstaff have done some top work to get the water off the ground but suspect there's a bit more drying to be done. The pitch is uncovered for now. The umpires are talking to the groundstaff. The toss is delayed

2.55pm SL_Raj: "could we get a weather update, please?" -- It's a gloomy afternoon. There's been some rain earlier today, but it stopped a little while ago. I don't have live visuals just yet for the current state. There's some more rain forecast for later.

The first ODI was all about SL getting a couple of batters to build on their good starts, and WI missing out on the same, with only Hope getting a half-century in pursuit of 304. The visitors, under new head coach Gary Kirsten, will want to seal the series tonight itself. The big question for SL today is whether Eshan Malinga, the swing bowler who would've got some help in the series opener, gets a start today after a terrific IPL 2026. For the hosts, it's tough to think of one standout change they could make after just one game. Here's more in the match preview. 1.30pm local June 6 is a special day for followers of West Indian cricket, because that's the day 32 years ago that Brian Lara scored his epic 501 for Warwickshire, but if you're not a sucker for nostalgia like I am, then it's also the day for the second ODI between West Indies and Sri Lanka, coming to you live from Kingston in Jamaica. SL are eyeing their first ODI series win in the Caribbean since 2003, while WI are aiming to keep the series alive. Depending on where you're joining us from, choose your beverage of choice and come get locked in as dive deep into the build up super shortly. My name is Sreshth Shah, joining you for today's action alongside Madushka Balasuriya, and we welcome for what promises to be an exciting contest.
