Bengals waive two more backups ahead of Tuesday's deadline

CINCINNATI -- Backups Tevin Reese and Mark Weisman became the eighth and ninth players to be cut from the Cincinnati Bengals' roster, when they were waived Monday afternoon.

Earlier in the day seven others, including receiver Denarius Moore, were released as the Bengals work down to Tuesday afternoon's deadline to get to a 75-man roster limit. By Saturday, another 22 players will be cut as the Bengals make their way to the 53-man roster they will carry into the regular season.

Currently, there are 78 players on the roster.

While both Reese and Weisman were waived, Weisman was let go under the waived/injured designation. It means that if he clears waivers Tuesday, he will revert back to the Bengals' injured reserve. There, he will join receiver James Wright, who went on IR at the start of training camp because of offseason knee surgery.

It's unclear what Weisman's injury is, but he appeared on 15 offensive snaps in last Saturday's preseason win against Chicago. Weisman hasn't had a hand-off, but he has appeared as a blocker on offense and been a special teams contributor.

Weisman appeared in each of the Bengals' first preseason games. Reese only appeared in the opener against the Giants. He later picked up an undisclosed injury and didn't finish the preseason.
