Every player lives in fear of suffering a similar injury to Owen Williams, according to Wales international Jonathan Davies.

Williams is in a Singapore hospital after suffering a "significant spinal cord injury" at the inaugural World Club 10s last weekend, with fears that he might be paralysed sending shockwaves through the rugby community.

Davies admitted news of the injury to his international team-mate, which has prompted players from around the world to show their support for Williams, brought home the dangers of their sport in one of the cruellest possible ways.

"Everyone is in shock," Davies told the Rugby Paper. "It's really opened the boys' eyes to the dangers of the game. It's something you live with every day but when it comes this close to home, it's even more shocking.

"You never want to see that happen to anyone, but when it's someone you have trained with, it hits hard.

"These are the dangers of the game but you never go on the field thinking or fearing you're going to be injured. But things like this do put things into perspective and that your health, and that of other players, is the most important thing."

Williams was in the Cardiff squad for the World Club 10s at Singapore's National Stadium as he stepped up his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury that kept him out of Wales' tour to South Africa earlier this month. Plans are now being made to fly him back to the UK where he can receive specialist treatment and be close to his family in Aberdare.
