The Barbarians have had an offer to the Welsh Rugby Union to stage a pre-tour match in Cardiff turned down despite the bulk of the Welsh squad having no meaningful rugby for five weeks before they head to South Africa.

Wales play the first of two Tests against the Springboks on June 14 but many of their side will not have played since May 10. The Rugby Paper reported the Barbarians told the WRU they were "available and willing" to provide an opposition in the week after they meet an England XV at Twickenham on June 1.

But the WRU snubbed the offer, meaning the Welsh side go into the first Test on June 14 with just the warm-up match against the Eastern Province Kings under their belt, a game which takes place on June 10. The Springboks, by comparison, are involved in the Super Rugby series and also have a warm-up against a World XV in Cape Town on June 7.
