Jon Fitch claims he beat the best BJ Penn that has ever set foot inside the Octagon following the pair's controversial draw at UFC 127.

Fitch and Penn were handed a majority draw by the judges after Penn twice came close with rear naked choke attempts in the first, before spending the entire final round getting pounded on by Fitch.

The two judges that scored the bout a draw handed Penn both the first and second round, before giving Fitch a 10-8 in the third.

AKA man Fitch, who is desperate to earn a second shot at the UFC welterweight title, is more convinced than ever that he comfortably won the final two rounds in Sydney. And, despite the fact that Penn boasts a career in which he has defeated the likes of Matt Hughes, Jens Pulver and Renzo Gracie, Fitch claims this was the best version of the Hawaiian ever witnessed.

"Finally watched the fight back myself," Fitch posted on his Facebook. "[First round was a] draw and I won 2 and 3. I will prove myself if I must. But I know I won that fight.

"Much respect to BJ. He is the legend I thought he was. I think that was the best BJ ANY of us have ever seen."
