Dana White has revealed a deal has been struck for Jose Aldo to defend his featherweight title against Anthony Pettis, with the fight likely to headline a mega summer UFC card.

Aldo got the better of Frankie Edgar at UFC 156 at the weekend, after which Pettis contacted White to put his name forward for a fight with Aldo.

"Something interesting happened about 10 minutes ago," White said at the post-fight news conference. "Anthony Pettis said, 'I want to go to 145 and fight Jose Aldo.' He told me he'll make 145."

White said Pettis' comments perked his attention and he has acted swiftly by confirming Pettis will step down from 155lb to 145lb to take on Aldo.

"Two of the baddest dudes in the fight business are going to fight at 145 pounds," White told USA Today. "These guys are two of the most amazing, gravity-defying athletes in the sport.

"I am so pumped for this fight."

A date and venue are being sought out, with Texas, Chicago, Las Vegas and Rio de Janeiro reported to be under consideration.
