The UFC was hit by the loss of a main event on Wednesday as Dana White announced Shane Carwin's withdrawal from his fight with Roy Nelson.

After arguably one of the most disappointing seasons in Ultimate Fighter history, it was hoped that a heavyweight collision between Carwin and Nelson would be able to save the series.

However, Carwin has pulled out of the TUF 16 Finale, which is scheduled to take place on December 15 in Las Vegas. A knee problem has forced Carwin out of action and it may be some time before he is back.

"It never ends," the UFC president said on Wednesday.

A blown knee is the cause of Carwin's absence, and it arrives after long-term neck and back issues. Nelson must now wait to find out if he gets a replacement opponent.
