Anderson Silva open to catchweight fight with Jones
UFC middleweight champion Silva is being increasingly linked to light-heavyweight king Jones, with both men dominant in their respective divisions. They also draw comparisons due to their flair and imagination inside the Octagon.
Silva has always claimed he would not fight Jones, sentiments echoed by the American, but president Dana White is convinced he could offer both men enough money to change their minds.
There is a suggestion among the MMA community that Brazilian superstar Silva is merely posturing for more money before he agrees to the bout, and White's recent comments appear to have turned the head of The Spider.
"I don't have such intentions, there isn't any motive to do so, mostly because there are several people from my team who belong to his weight class," Silva said to sportv.globo.com via CagedInsider.com
"But lots of people talk about it, and some of those are UFC employees. It's obvious, I might say that I don't want it, but if he (Jones) accepts the money Dana offers him? It is going to get tough.
"It isn't the cash that makes me do what I do, I fight because I like it. I don't know… I wouldn't like it, but if it's going to happen it would have to be at a catchweight. His belt wouldn't be on the line. I already have my title, I don't want my title to be on the line."
