Brian Ebersole's expected switch to lightweight is on hold after he was selected to step in for the injured Claude Patrick against James Head at UFC 149.

Ebersole had spoken of an intention to drop to 155lbs after his recent win over TJ Waldburger. The hugely talented 170-pounder stated his belief that he could make a title run at the lower weight class.

However Patrick's absence has left a hole on the UFC 149 card later this month. Ebersole, ever reliable, has stepped in for the July 21 event.

He remains unbeaten in the UFC but will be tested by Head, who picked up his first UFC win against Papy Abedi last time out. UFC 149 is headlined by Urijah Faber v Renan Barao.
