Rich Franklin believes Wanderlei Silva would have landed a middleweight title shot if he had won their UFC 147 clash earlier this month.

Franklin, returning to UFC action after more than a year out, beat Silva on a unanimous decision in Brazil.

And as a former middleweight king, Franklin is hoping that triumph will propel him back into the title picture.

"I would like to make a title run before I retire. I don't know who I will be fighting next, but I believe if Wanderlei had beaten me, they would have given him a title shot against the winner of [Anderson] Silva and [Chael] Sonnen [at UFC 148]," Franklin told MMAmania.com.

The news comes as something of a surprise, given Wanderlei Silva's patchy record: he has won only three of his last eight UFC contests.
