The inaugural UFC flyweight final will be contested by Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson after Mighty Mouse won his rematch with Ian McCall at UFC on FX 3 on Friday night.

Johnson, who thought he had won the first battle before a judging mix-up ruled otherwise, made the greater adjustments for the rematch, improving his wrestling and sharpening up his striking for a clear unanimous decision victory, rendered 29-28 30-27 29-28 by the judges.

McCall was expected to lean on his wrestling, having experienced some joy in that department in the first fight, but instead it was Johnson who landed a couple of early takedowns. He also dropped McCall with a counter right hand off the back foot that confirmed the first round belonged to him.

McCall improved in the second stanza and did enough to edge it, changing levels to gain a few takedowns of his own while firing combinations when striking.

However, with the fight finely balanced Johnson scored the early takedown in the third and, with McCall chasing from that point onwards, the faster, quicker Johnson picked his rival off.

Perhaps the most significant performance of the night came from Erick Silva, who submitted Charlie Brenneman at 4.33 of round one to confirm his spot as a genuine contender in the welterweight division. Brenneman brought a high tempo and relentless wrestling offence, taking his opponent to the mat on more than one occasion, but Silva simply adjusted before locking in both hooks to flatten his man out for the rear naked choke.

Elsewhere, Mike Pyle scored the Knockout of the Night against Josh Neer, while Eddie Wineland knocked out Scott Jorgensen in the Fight of the Night.
