Former middleweight Aaron Simpson will make his welterweight debut against Jon Fitch at UFC on Fuel 4 in July.

Simpson revealed after his most recent defeat in February that he felt the time had come for him to drop to the 170-pound weight class, as he struggled to compare for size with some of his rivals in the bigger division.

And the 37-year-old has now acted on the idea, as he will face Fitch - who is looking to bounce back after a knockout loss to Johny Hendricks at UFC 141 - in California on July 11.

"Everybody in my weight class is probably right now, out of training, 220, maybe bigger," Simpson said, explaining his move from middleweight. "Mark Munoz is up to 230 at times. I don't get over 195."

He added: "I'm 37 years old, and I haven't weighed 171 since my senior year of high school."

Simpson has a record of 11 victories and three defeats in MMA, while Fitch has lost four times in a 28-fight career to date.
