An undisclosed injury has forced Yoshihiro Akiyama out of his welterweight bout at UFC 149 on July 21, the promotion announced on Tuesday on its website.

Akiyama was down to face former top contender Thiago Alves. Alves will instead face Siyar Bahadurzada, who makes his second appearance inside the Octagon.

In his UFC debut on April 14, Bahadurzada (21-4-1) knocked out Paulo Thiago in the first round. He enters the bout against Alves on a seven-fight win streak. A former middleweight, Bahadurzada is 4-0 at 170 pounds.

Alves (19-9) looks to rebound from a third-round submission loss on March 3 against Martin Kampmann.

UFC 149 takes place at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta.
