UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is expected to face Erik Koch in his next title defence after Hatsu Hioki was paired with Ricardo Lamas on Wednesday.

President Dana White recently revealed Aldo is likely to appear on the UFC 147 card, which recently lost the championship bout between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen. However, the Brazilian is yet to have an opponent confirmed.

The June 23 event would come too soon for Dustin Poirier, who fights Chan Sung Jung on May 15. Now Hioki has been taken out of the equation after he was matched with Lamas at UFC on FX 4, headlined by Gray Maynard v Clay Guida.

Koch is widely rumoured to have been sent a fight contract to face Aldo, although neither camp has yet confirmed that news. The 23-year-old challenger boasts a 13-1 record, with his sole loss coming against Chad Mendes - who Aldo beat in his last outing.
