Nick Diaz tested positive for marijuana at UFC 143, the Nevada Athletic Commission confirmed on Thursday.

Diaz had been tipped for a rematch with Carlos Condit, who edged their interim welterweight title battle in a controversial points decision. However, it became apparent on Wednesday through Diaz's manager Cesar Gracie that the sequel would not happen.

News of Diaz's positive test almost certainly acts as the explanation for why the rematch will not go ahead, leaving Condit to once again focus on returning champion Georges St-Pierre at the back end of this year.

"Mr Diaz tested positive for marijuana metabolites. A complaint for disciplinary action against Mr Diaz has been filed," Nevada Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer said in a statement.

Diaz, who arrived in the UFC as the Strikeforce welterweight champion, tested positive for marijuana once before after fighting Takanori Gomi in Pride.
