Lyoto Machida has put himself forward as Dan Henderson's next fight, if Rashad Evans beats Phil Davis at UFC on Fox 2 this weekend.

The light-heavyweight title picture is fairly clear. If Evans beats Davis, he will be next for champion Jon Jones. However, if the relatively inexperienced Davis wins, Henderson will almost certainly fight next for the title.

Given that Evans is favourite to win in Chicago, that situation leaves Henderson needing another opponent in order to stay active before he gets his shot at the champion.

That is where Machida comes in. The Brazilian gave Jones as difficult a time as he has had in his entire UFC career, and now Machida wants to earn a rematch by taking out a man of Henderson's calibre.

"I'm awaiting the UFC's suggestion," Machida told Tatame. "I guess in April or May [for my return], I'll suggest Dan Henderson, who's a good guy. I know he's on the line for the belt, but if this fight against Jon Jones doesn't happen, I'd like to fight him.

"He's a legend in the sport, a champion in many events, like Rings, Pride, Strikeforce… I'd like to test my technique against his."
