Michael Bisping's title credentials have got the backing of Randy Couture, who says the Brit has done enough to warrant a shot at the UFC middleweight championship.

Bisping extended his recent record to 4-0 with victory over Jason Miller at the TUF 14 Finale. He now takes on Demian Maia in January.

The Brit's career has often been derided due to a perceived lack of punching power, and question marks over opponents faced. However, the fact remains only Dan Henderson, Rashad Evans and Wanderlei Silva have beaten him in his MMA career.

Couture has witnessed Bisping's entire UFC spell, and he believes the fast-handed middleweight deserves his crack at Anderson Silva.

"I think he probably does. He's right up there in the top four or five guys in that weight class," Couture told ESPN.

"You can split hairs on deciding who the No. 1 contender is. He's coming off a great outing against Jason Miller, weathered a storm and had the conditioning and great technique to finish the fight well.

"He's one of the top guys so why not?"
