When Rampage Jackson connects, he truly connects. When he sets out to do damage, he does serious damage. And if his opponent fails to keep their chin away from his fists, that chin introduces itself to the deck.
Rampage is box office. When he is fighting, the spectator is always one second away from a jaw-dropping knockout. When he is talking, the listener is always on the cusp of a headline-grabbing, reputation-breaking one-liner.
As a career in a nutshell, Jackson's compares to the best. He is a former UFC light-heavyweight champion and the first man to ever unify Pride and UFC championships. His list of career victims includes the names of Chuck Liddell, Wanderlei Silva, Lyoto Machida and Dan Henderson, and that list is yet to be finished.
However, it is the many sub-plots of Rampage Jackson's career that make him a fan favourite. Sub-plots like his vicious rivalry with Wanderlei, which saw Rampage lethally knocked out twice, only for the Wolf's Lair fighter to hit back with a KO of his own at UFC 92.
Sub-plots such as the memorable knockout of Ricardo Arona, who had been looking for a triangle choke finish of his own when Jackson rendered the Brazilian unconscious with a powerbomb slam.
And sub-plots such as The Ultimate Fighter, which has seen Rampage lose the plot with rival coaches Forrest Griffin and Rashad Evans, both of whom he later lost against in hugely contrasting fights. The Griffin loss was a Fight of the Year contender, a large proportion of which Jackson contested on one leg. The Evans bout was a major disappointment.
Like his rivalry with Wanderlei, Rampage plans to avenge both losses, as he does the most brutal defeat of his career, dished out by Mauricio Shogun Rua - who broke Rampage's ribs. All three men remain on Jackson's hitlist, which is never a good place to find yourself, although a title looks beyond him after losses to Jon Jones and Ryan Bader.
Career high
In a career littered with exceptional highs, Jackson's knockout of Chuck Liddell at UFC 71 was a moment never to be forgotten. Liddell was at the top of his game at the time, but a single hook from Jackson sparked a spell of five defeats in six fights for the Iceman on his way to retirement.
Career low
Inside the UFC, Rampage has been shocked by Forrest Griffin (losing his title in the process) and he was frustrated by big rival Rashad Evans. However, the humbling defeat against Mauricio Shogun Rua during his PRIDE days, when Rampage suffered broken ribs, still rankles with the former champion more than most.
