Andy Murray has rubbished suggestions that he did not take his clash with Janko Tipsarevic in the Dubai Tennis Championships seriously.
Murray bowed out in three sets having produced an indifferent display in Dubai. The world No. 4 looked lethargic at times and his game was not at the level that took him to the final of the Australian Open.
Murray served and volleyed on occasions, admitting he did try things that he may not have done in a Grand Slam, but denied that he was using the event as a practice session.
"I was trying some things out and it was a good learning experience for me," Murray said. "It's not the end of the world. If it had been a slam, my tactics and game style would have been a bit different."
Responding to suggestions that he was not fully focused in Dubai, Murray said: "I am not using it as a practice session - I said at the beginning that when I am getting ready for big events you need to try something out.
"I have been asked for years to play more aggressive, and when you play more aggressive you make more mistakes. That's bound to happen."
