British No.2 James Ward suffered defeat in the final round of qualifying for the US Open for the second year in a row.

Ward, who arrived in New York at a career-high ranking of 131, was beaten 6-1 3-6 6-2 by Moldovan Radu Albot.

The defeat means Ward's wait to complete a set of major main-draw appearances continues.

After Ward had battled to level the match at one set all, play was suspended for two hours after the first game of the third set due to rain.

It proved to be an untimely break for Ward, who was broken for 3-1 before Albot took his second match point to book his place in the main draw of a grand slam for the first time.
