Ana Ivanovic has won her first title on grass after the top seed defeated Barbora Zahlavova Strycova in the final of the Aegon Classic at Edgbaston.

The Serb had never reached the final of a grass court event prior to today but was too strong for her opponent, winning 6-3 6-2 in an hour and 17 minutes to collect her 37th victory of the year - the WTA's leading total in 2014.

Ivanovic won four successive games to lead 4-1 in the first set after falling a break behind.

After clinching the opening set, Ivanovic won five games in a row to go 5-1 up in the second. The former French Open champion then sealed victory by holding serve to love.

"The crowd really has been amazing. I really enjoyed my time here and I look forward to next year," Ivanovic said. "I really had a good time on grass."
