Ana Ivanovic will face Zhang Shuai in the semi-finals of the Aegon Classic in Edgbaston after they both won their last-eight encounters in straight sets.

Top seed Ivanovic beat Klara Koukalova 6-1 6-4, while Zhang upset third seed Sloane Stephens 6-3 6-1.

Zhang, who prior to this week had never won a match on grass, said: "I think today because I was on centre court I felt great. There were so many people watching and supporting me. I think this is why I played well.

"I said that I would never play well on grass but this is really a good tournament for me. I am still learning everyday how to play on grass."

Barbora Zahlavova Strycova overcame fourth seed Kirsten Flipkens 6-4 6-2 and will face Casey Dellacqua in the second semi-final after the Australian defeated Kimiko Date-Krumm 6-1 6-0.
