Heather Watson suffered semi-final heartbreak at Poitiers after she lost out 6-4 2-6 6-2 to Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson.

The Brit had returned to the ITF circuit in a bid to recapture some form, where for the first time this year she recorded three wins on the spin to reach Saturday's semi-final against Arvidsson.

Ranked 13 places above her opponent, Watson showed great resolve to battle back and take a tight second set to level the tie.

However, Watson failed to make it four successive victories in France as she soon faded in the deciding set.

The 21-year-old is currently 133rd in the world rankings and out of contention for automatic qualification for the Australian Open, which begins in January.
