Novak Djokovic claimed his fourth China Open crown after defeating Rafael Nadal 6-3 6-4 in Sunday's final in Beijing.
Nadal, who will replace Djokovic as world No. 1 on Monday despite losing out to the Serb, was broken once in each set by his opponent but failed to claim a break point of his own.
Djokovic started strongly and quickly raced into a 3-0 lead in the first set, before closing out the opener with a fine display which dampened any challenge from the Spaniard.
Nadal failed to hold his serve in the opening game of the second, instantly giving Djokovic the initiative to close out victory and end the French Open champion's run of 21 consecutive victories.
On Monday, Nadal will top the world rankings for the first time since July 2011, when a string of injuries saw him fall down to fourth.
He returned from a seven month injury lay-off in February and has since gone 64-4 this season, winning ten titles including a record eighth championship at Roland Garros before defeating Djokovic to claim the US Open title in Sepetmber.
