David Ferrer continues to boost his ranking-points total in fourth spot as the Spaniard reached the semi-finals of the Portugal Open.

The Paris Masters champion is the man responsible for whether Rafael Nadal is seeded inside the top four for the French Open, as Ferrer currently occupies fourth spot in the world rankings with Nadal behind him in fifth.

If record seven-time French Open champion Nadal does not make it into the top four, then he would take on one of the top players in the quarter-finals at Roland Garros.

Ferrer will take some budging from that fourth place though as he is on course to reach his fifth final of the campaign, and he set up a last four encounter against Andreas Seppi after coming through 6-4 7-6(2) against Victor Hanescu in the quarter-finals.

Ferrer is the player who has collected the most wins on the tour this year, with his latest No. 27, and the top seed in Portugal is out to add to his two titles in 2013.

Seppi swept into the last four with a 6-4 6-3 win over Tommy Robredo, while Stanislas Wawrinka was a 6-4 6-4 victor over Gastao Elias.
