Rafael Nadal's withdrawal from the ATP World Tour Finals in London has guaranteed Juan Martin Del Potro's place at the O2 Arena.

The world No. 8, who beat Brian Baker in straight sets at the Swiss Indoors on Thursday, is on a hot streak after winning his third title of the season at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna last week.

Nadal announced on Thursday that his season was over after failing to shake off a knee injury which has sidelined him since June.

Del Potro has not qualified for the season-ending event since 2009, when he lost to Nikolay Davydenko in the final, having won the US Open earlier that season.

"For me it's a gift for my effort during the year," Del Potro said. "Being in that tournament means a lot. It's only eight players fighting for one tournament. It's the best eight players of the year, so it's very important to me.

"I'm so glad to be there once again. I will be fighting against the big names in London and maybe I'll have a chance to make another final."

Following Nadal's withdrawal, there are two places still available, with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Janko Tipsarevic the favourites to qualify for the season finale, which takes place between November 5-12.
