Monfils impresses on return

Gael Monfils showed no signs of rust as he made a confident return to action with a 6-3 6-2 win over Olivier Rochus in the Moselle Open.
A knee injury resulted in the 26-year-old spending four months on the sidelines, but he powered through to the second round of a tournament he has won on two occasion. An impressive 21 aces flew off the Monfils racket.
Eighth seed Nikolay Davydenko made a slovenly start, but bounced back from a set down to beat Mischa Zverev 2-6 6-3 6-3.
Qualifier Clement Reix earned a second-round clash with top seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga as he beat fellow Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin 6-3 3-6 7-5.
Benoit Paire powered past Xavier Malisse 6-1 6-4, while Ivo Karlovic beat Kenny De Schepper in two tiebreak sets.
At the St Petersburg Open, No. 1 seed Mikhail Youzhny beat Vasek Pospisil 7-6(4) 6-1 to advance to the second round.
