Andy Murray will head into next week's US Open as the third seed.

Murray's confidence will be boosted by his gold-medal winning performance at the London 2012 Olympics earlier this summer. The Scot will be aiming to end a 76-year wait for a British male singles champion at a grand slam.

The seedings for the Flushing Meadows event directly correlate to the current world rankings, with five-time winner Roger Federer named as top seed. Novak Djokovic is second seed, while world No. 4 Murray has been lifted to third seed as a result of Rafael Nadal's withdrawal.

David Ferrer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga round out the top five seeds, while American John Isner leads the home contingent, seeded ninth for the tournament.

The draw for the event will take place in New York on Thursday.
