Laura Robson served erratically but returned superbly in a crushing first-round victory over Valentyna Ivakhnenko at the Italiacom Open.

Robson, ranked 127 places higher than her rival, coughed up six double-faults in what proved to be a 50-minute match, but crucially converted six break points for a 6-1 6-0 triumph.

The Brit was wild from the start on serve, mixing three aces with three double-faults in her first two service games. That all led to three breaks in the first four games, two going Robson's way for a 3-1 advantage.

Ivakhnenko found herself under constant pressure, losing seven of the opening nine points played on her own first serve, and she found Robson in clinical mood. Of nine break chances created, Robson converted six, sweeping to victory in under an hour.

She will now meet second seed Roberta Vinci in the next round.
