Watson slays Stephens in Stanford

Heather Watson's fine run of form continued with a three-set win over Sloane Stephens at the Bank of the West Classic.
The Brit gave a glimpse of her potential with a run to the third round of Wimbledon, before losing to the eventual runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska, and she built on her effort at the All-England Club with a 7-6(5) 4-6 6-1 win in Stanford.
It was a contest where serve did not dominate, as Watson was broken on three occasions in the first set but still took it on a breaker.
Watson was broken twice more in the second set as Stephens forced a decider, but the world No. 79 steeled herself in the third set to topple a player ranked 30 places above her.
Fifth seed Yanina Wickmayer is up next for Watson following the Belgian's a 7-5 2-6 7-5 win over Chang Kai-chen.
