Novak Djokovic remains on course for the defence of his Wimbledon title as he powered past Florian Mayer to secure a semi-final clash with six-time champion Roger Federer.

With Federer needing less than an hour and a half to cruise past Mikhail Youzhny on Centre Court, the world No. 1 replied with a comfortable 6-4 6-1 6-4 victory on Court One.

But while Federer burst out of the blocks against his Russian opponent, Djokovic was forced to recover from a slow start as he dropped serve early in the opening set.

Although he responded immediately, he was forced to save three break points after a brief rain delay. As Mayer was left to ponder what might have been, the top seed struck the killer blow, breaking the German before wrapping up the opening set.

As Djokovic settled into his rhythm, his power from the baseline proved too much for Mayer and the Serb rattled through the second set in just 25 minutes.

Mayer thrilled the crowd with some diving volleys, but he was unable to stave off defeat as Djokovic secured victory to reach his ninth consecutive grand slam semi-final, where he will face Federer for the first time on grass.
