World No. 216 Brian Baker could not conjure a fairytale ending to his shock run at the Open de Nice, losing in the final to Nicolas Almagro.

American qualifier Baker, who missed nearly six years of action due to injury before returning in July 2011, lost 6-3 6-2 in 69 minutes.

The victory means that Almagro has retained the title he also lifted last year - and he has done so without dropping a set all week, which bodes well for his chances at the French Open.

Almagro, the Spanish world No. 14, grabbed two breaks in each set on his way to a 12th ATP Tour title. He has also tasted success at the Brasil Open this year.

Meanwhile, victories for Janko Tipsarevic and Victor Troicki helped Serbia to defeat Czech Republic in the final of the World Team Cup.

World No. 8 Tipsarevic overcame Tomas Berdych 7-5 7-6(8) in one hour and 57 minutes, while Troicki conquered Radek Stepanek 2-6 6-4 6-3 in two hours and eight minutes.
