Injured Murray withdraws from Basel
Andy Murray's bid to win four straight tournaments will continue after the British No. 1 pulled out of the Swiss Indoors with a muscle strain.
The world No. 3, who won a hat-trick of tournaments in the Far East last month, was due to play Robin Haase on Wednesday, but Murray was forced to pull out with a right gluteal muscle strain.
"I woke up yesterday and was really struggling to walk," Murray said. "I went to a swimming pool nearby and did some exercises and it felt a little better, but I was forced to cancel my practice yesterday. It is just a freak thing and I have no idea how I did it."
Swiss Marco Chiudinelli will replace the second seed in the draw in Basel, where world No. 1 Novak Djokovic is in action after six weeks out with a back injury. The top seed survived a scare against Xavier Malisse to reach the second round on Tuesday.
Murray will rest this week, and is optimistic of his chances of being fit in time for next week's Paris Masters, ahead of the ATP World Tour Finals in London later this month.
