Tahs coach leaves behind shattered door

Star Brumbies winger Henry Speight might be fielding a shattered jaw, but it's the shattered glass door of the Waratahs coaching box that's making headlines. Waratahs coach Michael Cheika was frustrated after an 80th-minute scrum penalty was awarded against his side in the Brumbies' 28-23 blockbuster Super Rugby win in Canberra on Saturday night.

While the ensuing penalty goal shut the door on the Waratahs, that didn't stop Cheika from all-too-hastily opening one of his own. The laminated glass door was shoved open with such force that it rebounded off the wall's door-stopper and splintered.

It wasn't long before news of the broken door lit up social media.

When asked about his frustration, Cheika said it was related to the scrums. The Brumbies were constantly rewarded for scrum dominance by referee Jaco Peyper and, despite being a man down in the final minute, they were awarded another penalty.

"Some of the decisions that came off the back of that did frustrate me, I admit it, for sure," Cheika said. "I was really disappointed with the scrum at the end there that they got given again, when really that ball should have been given to us. In all of the other parts of the game the referee was very accurate."

Oh, and despite participating in a post-match on-field interview, Speight will go in for x-rays on his jaw with "serious doubt" over his availability against the Stormers next week.
