Irish jumps jockey Davy Russell has received a four-day suspension for punching a horse in the back of the head before a race at Tramore.
Russell, 38, aimed a blow at Kings Dolly on August 18. The Irish Turf Club initially issued a caution before asking its appeal body to investigate further.
The investigation then found Russell had breached Rule 272 in that he "acted in a way that was prejudicial to the integrity, proper conduct or good reputation of horse racing."
Race-day stewards were unaware of the incident but after footage was posted online, Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said it was "appalled."
Russell has twice been champion jockey in Ireland and rode the winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 2014 -- Lord Windermere.
