Shaun Murphy continued his rich vein of form as he breezed into the second round of the Welsh Open thanks to a 4-0 victory over David Morris.

Murphy - who won the Gdynia Open in Poland to end a run of almost three years without a ranking title - has made two 147 maximum breaks already in 2014, and fired in the highest break of the tournament with a 142 en route to conceding just 40 points during the match.

"I felt a bit sorry for David because I could see he wasn't used to the table and the way the TV tables play," Murphy said after the win.

"I did well in Poland and then again in the Championship League. It has been a little bit of good medicine for me and a long time since I have won, so that has changed my confidence. I'm just looking forward to playing all the time, it just goes to show that snooker and possibly all sport is about the six inches between your ears."

World No.1 and UK champion Neil Robertson safely progressed with a 4-1 win over Lyu Haotian. Former world champion Graeme Dott was a 4-0 winner over Lee Page, while there were also victories for Stuart Bingham and Mark Davis.
